Learn more about what a donation to de la gente means for farmers:
$20 can provide 50 new coffee seedlings to replace those lost to Roya, Coffee Leaf Rust, or other pests. Since 2012 Roya has had a devastating impact on coffee cultivating communities, some losing up to 80% of their plants.
$50 can provide technical analysis of coffee quality by ANACAFE, the National Association of Coffee in Guatemala, for one farmer or one cooperative. Quality is key when it comes to producing specialty coffee and technical analysis can help farmers improve processing.
$500 can provide financing to support a farmer and their family purchase a new parcel of land that can be used to grow coffee and increase their income or to grow food staples such a beans, corn, or root vegetables increasing their food security.
$30 can provide a treatment of organic foliar nutrient sprays for a farmer to apply to 1 acre of plants for 1 year. Treatments for diseases and pests are a necessary input now that climate change has brought new challenges to organic farming, but with your support farmers learn best practices and the safe use of fertilizers and chemicals.
$100 enables an Agriculture Advisor to visit a cooperative and conduct a 2 day training on best practices, safe agrochemical and pesticide use, or how to improve bean quality.
$1,000 can provide 1 Bici-pulpero, a bicycle powered depulper. This piece of machinery enables farmers to depulp the coffee beans from the fruit in their home, saving them from having to pay for the service, and as an added bonus it produces no emissions since it is human powered!
