Community engagement at De la Gente is global. Besides working with incredible coffee farmers, talented artisans and local community members (we would be nowhere without them!) we are fortunate to partner with fantastic organizations and universities that share De la Gente’s aim of offering real cultural experiences, service learning and immersive education. Our tours and service learning trips allow participants to take what they’ve seen, learned and experienced back to their friends and families and become advocates for social change in their communities and globally.
We’re excited to see some familiar faces in 2016 as we welcome back several groups for their second, third and even fourth visit to Guatemala with De la Gente! Our first group for the 2016 service learning trip season hails from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. UW-EW joined DLG for a few days last year, and this year they will spend time with community members from the San Miguel Escobar and Santa Anita cooperatives learning about coffee farming and Guatemalan history, enjoying delicious meals with families and participating in workshops with DLG artisans. Bienvenidos, otra vez!
We are very thankful for our partnerships with organizations and agencies that provide a broader audience for our community tours, and for universities that participate in our service learning trips so that we can continue to support local communities and encourage cross-cultural learning.
